Sparrows (Year 1) – Rebecca Moore – 2019-2020

Staying Safe with Thomas – Live Read

This week Robins and Sparrows took part in a live read of the new Thomas the Tank Engine book. The children learnt from Thomas how to stay safe on and around the train. We discussed how it is important to stop at a level crossing, to always with your adult and that you should always close gates behind you to keep not only ourselves but animals safe too.

In Art this term we have been looking at colours and how we can combine them. We learnt about the primary colours blue, yellow and red, and explored mixing paints together in a variety of ways to make different colours.

In our English learning this term we have been looking at instructions. During our ‘Field to Fork’ week we made bread and butter, following instructions and preparing to write our own. We really enjoyed kneading the bread and shaking the jar to make butter.

In Maths we have been exploring numbers to 10. We have been learning about all the ways we represent these numbers and how to partition them. We used lots of different manipulatives to show this.
