A School Rich in History

Bere Alston School Est. 1665

A Brief History

We are incredibly proud of our school and of its rich history. We make it a priority to instil into our children this pride and a knowledge that they are a part of such a long and storied journey of a school.

Bere Alston is one the oldest village primary schools in the country. It was opened as a school for boys in 1665 by Sir John Maynard. This original building is still used today, housing the staffroom, offices and classrooms.

In 1912, a further building was added to the school, adding to the very special history of the building. Since then, a further building has been added, along with our sports hall, to create the distinctive structure that the children attend today.

We very much welcome visitors to the school for a tour.
